7 Course degustation dinner party with host chefs – Unawatuna
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Get off Sri Lanka’s eaten path with a unique alfresco dinner party hosted by two of Galle’s most cutting edge chefs. Pioneering the social dining scene in the Galle area, your host chefs have a fridge full of creativity and a beautiful little garden within which they challenge your tastebuds to a fine-dining feast focusing on Sri Lankan produce.
EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION: Arrive between 7 and 7.30pm to be greeted with a signature cocktail at the garden bar and meet your fellow diners. There will be anywhere up to 24 people at the dinner parties and conversations tend to really get going once at the table, so come prepared to socialize! After a drink at the bar, you will take a seat and your host chefs will start bringing out the dishes. Each course comes with an eloquent introduction and a detailed description from your chef hosts. Expect some seriously sophisticated fusions such as ‘oysters served with rosemary vermouth and passion fruit ice’ or ‘yellow fin tuna ceviche with watermelon, maki maki powder, and capsicum comfit.’ The chefs are keen on experimenting with unique flavors and this will likely be some of the most creative cooking you’ll find this side of the island. The night finishes off with dessert at around 10pm, but you need not feel pushed to leave straight away. It’s not uncommon to stay for a drink or two after the meal. The dinner parties tend to run on into the night once conversation has been lubricated by excellent food and perhaps a few cocktails.
YOUR HOST: A Sri Lankan-English chef and a pastry chef from New Zealand, your host chefs run a small guesthouse in the Galle area from which they have been hosting highly successful dinner parties for the better part of two years. The chefs will present the food throughout, giving unique insight and a powerful introduction to their original dishes. Usually one of the hosts will be in the kitchen cooking whilst the other presents, but don’t feel shy to go and talk with both of them. They are highly knowledgeable on food and the general area, and are extremely friendly.

Includes: Your hosts, one cocktail, a seven course dinner and table water.
Excludes: extra alcoholic beverages and soft drinks.

Duration: 3-4 hours, depending on whether you stay to socialize after the meal.
What to wear or bring along: The garden can attract a few mosquitoes so it’s better to cover up a little if you can, otherwise bring along some mosquito repellent. However, since this is social event many of the diners “dress to impress,” but casual attire is also fine.
Private or not? This experience is not private, you will be joined for dinner by other guests. However for groups of 15+ guests the dinner party can be organized privately, dependent on availability.
