Curry cooking lesson and lunch – Jaffna
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Jaffna cuisine is renowned for its use of the fresh seafood readily available along the coast, and the region is especially famous for its Jaffna crab curry. Learn the secrets to cleaning fresh sea crabs and all the secrets to preparing a traditional Jaffna crab curry. To finish off the experience, sit down to one of the best crab curry meals you’ll have while in Sri Lanka.
EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION: The cooking lesson takes place at a local boutique hotel, led by their resident chef. You’ll start with the basics in preparation of the crabs which could be lagoon crabs or sea crabs depending on what’s available, and a run through all the ingredients used. The lesson is more observational than participative, but is a colorful and sensory delight! The end result is a crab curry unique in flavor thanks to the range of mouthwatering ingredients. In the layout for lunch, white rice accompanies a set of curries common across the island, including local specialties like ‘rasam’, a clear soup laced with hints of spice which is light and peppery and accompanies the rice and curries superbly.

Private or not? The experience takes place at the open air courtyard of a popular boutique hotel in Jaffna. Other in-house guests may be present for the cooking demonstration.
