A gorgeous one-acre garden bursting with miniature palms, flower-filled borders, tamarind trees and lush manicured lawns encircles the main house, and amongst it is where the five ensuite double bedrooms are found. The hotel is set up for complete and utter relaxation and yoga retreats are held here a few times a year. Although Bougainvillea retreat is only a short 45 minute drive from Kandy, the serenity of this picturesque location – on the edge of the exclusive Victoria Golf and Country Club – is otherworldly. Features such as a resort-style freeform infinity swimming pool, a mini cinema with over 1,000 DVDs, a well-thumbed library, and a spa with jacuzzi and hamam steam bath up the ante even more.
Bougainvillea retreat is fully staffed and on the team are a full time manager and an experienced chef who creates healthy breakfasts, tasty snacks and innovative lunch and dinner menus featuring nouveau Sri Lankan cuisine. If you can bear to part with your sunbed, there are many opportunities to get out and explore the area; activities include golfing, trekking, horse riding, bird watching, and tennis.
The five comfortable bedrooms at Bougainvillea Retreat are found in the Scandinavian-style chalets in the garden. Each bedroom features a split king bed (which can be arranged as a twin), a private veranda, built-in cupboards and an ensuite bathroom with hot water shower. Bedrooms are all air conditioned.
