Jetwing | Vil Uyana

The work of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds and the Wildfowl and Wetland Trust in the UK was unusually the source of inspiration for Vil Uyana. The remit for the architect was to construct a privately owned wetland nature reserve, out of bare land. A wild refuge for otters, crocodiles and dragonflies. Perhaps even for a thirsty elephant or monkey, when the seasonal drought follows the monsoons. Oh… and some dwellings for discerning tourists, who would want the ultimate chill out, but without sacrificing creature comforts.

The end result is a matrix of wetland and organic paddy studded with luxurious dwellings and an island spa, in the culturally rich north central plains. Plunge pools, butler service, village trails to explore, inspiring companionship from naturalists, the lifestyle decisions are yours to take.

All the rooms are well equipped with modern conveniences including individually controlled air conditioning, cordless phone with I.D.D, Mini Bar, 29’’ flat screen television, satellite television channels, in-room Tea/Coffee making facility, electronic safe (Suitable for laptops and cameras), and DVD/CD players.

Each dwelling has a private deck with scenic views and an outdoor dining area. Paddy dwellings have small plunge pools whilst forest villas have proper, yet smallish, swimming pools.

- Jump into a hot air balloon and enjoy an aerial view at dawn or sunset of the stunning landscape of jungle, rocky outcrops, and national parks (November-April)

This is a wonderful place to stay as a family. The Forest chalets have one large room, which fit a double bed and two singles and in both the paddy and marsh areas, there are chalets situated side by side with plunge pools, which are ideal for parents with children over twelve. Enjoy taking nature trails, buffalo cart rides and safaris in Minneriya and Kaudulla national parks to see elephants, peacocks, water buffaloes, and eagles.

Apsara is the fine dining restaurant; Suland for casual dining. The name Apsara translates as “Celestial Maidens of Sigiriya”, Sulang translates as “winds”. The main restaurant is located on the upper floor of the main house overlooking the swimming pool, the chalets and the surrounding countryside.

A more intimate setting is the privacy of your own room. Vil Uyana offers special in-room “signature dining”.
