Located on Lower Dickson road in the urban center of Galle, Kikili House is set amidst a tropical garden and spacious verandah, where home cooking and a relaxed, welcoming vibe is the order of the holiday. The property belongs to Kikili Enterprises, run by partners Henri Thatham and Kokila Harindra.
For some background on all reference to hens around the house, Kikili means ‘Hen’ in Singhalese, and Kokila ‘Cockerel’. Together, Henri and Kokila they have launched a series of innovative, colorful spaces in the south that offer guests everything they could think of in a holiday home.
Kikili House is a Bed and Breakfast home stay and is as vibrant, if not more so, as its sister property Kikili Beach in Unawatuna and just five minutes from Galle’s town, seafood markets and Fort, and 10 minutes from the best swimming beach around. The house is solar powered, offers complimentary WIFI access and an honesty bar filled with a selection of wines and beers. The property could be booked by the room or as a whole.
– Ride inland on bikes to discover a stunning emerald landscape of paddy fields, white-washed Buddhist temples, and rural villages
– Spend the day on one of the golden beaches along the coast: Unawatuna is just 50 metres away, or make for Dalawella or palm-fringed Mirissa Bay
– Go crack-of-dawn whale and dolphin watching from Mirissa
– Visit the virgin white tea plantation in Titagalla and learn how tea, cinnamon and rubber is produced
Other meals could be made on request, and guests are also encouraged to make use of a well-equipped, open pantry kitchen (which connects to a small dining area overlooking a small garden).
The Fort area is also alive with many great restaurants open for lunch and dinner. Provisions for food and drinks may be bought from the local markets, and the staff can assist with this.
