Aside from relaxing on the white sandy beaches, there are lots of activities in Trincomalee to entertain travelers who visit the north-eastern coastal town. Stay around the coastline and set out to sea in search of whales, or spend a morning sailing and snorkeling on a catamaran out in the middle of the ocean. Visit nearby Pigeon Island, one of Sri Lanka’s two marine national parks, and go snorkeling around the spectacular colorful reefs.

 If you can tear yourself away from the pristine shoreline, explore Trincomalee’s town: gaze out over the harbor, one of the most spectacular natural harbors in the world, or explore the 17^th century Dutch fort. Go to the top of Swami Rock and visit the sacred Koneswaram Kovil whilst absorbing the panoramic ocean views.  There’s also a WWII cemetery on the road from Trincomalee to Nilaveli, and bathing in the Kanniyai Hot Springs is also a fun experience.
