Luxury Hotels in Sri Lanka
At the moment there is a small range of good luxury hotels in Sri Lanka. These include the Amangalla in Galle, the Amanwella in Tangalle, Ulagalla Resort close to Anuradhapura in The Cultural Triangle and the Relais & Chateaux awarded Ceylon Tea Trails in the Tea Country. There are also a number of fantastic boutique hotels across the country but they can not be considered to fall into the luxury hotels in Sri Lanka category.
In the Cultural Triangle, Ulagalla Resort is a wonderfully luxurious place to stay. Many people spend three nights here or more and even then are sad to leave. The level of service, attention to detail, cuisine, and the range of services and activities on offer is high. The spa with two Balinese masseuse is a highlight, as is the horse riding stables and the incredible grounds.
Another property that falls into the luxury hotels in Sri Lanka category is Ceylon Tea Trails. This consists of four planter’s bungalows, which lie close to Hatton in the Tea Country. These have hosted by many stars and celebrities because of the excellent service and comfort that they offer. Each guest has a personal butler who brings them the tea of their choice in bed and subtly attends to every need. The bungalows can be reached by sea plane and helicopter, which cuts out the beautifully scenic but windy connection by road.
Other luxury hotels in Sri Lanka include Amanwella, which perches on the coast in tropical Tangalle and the grand Amangalla hotel in the historic Galle Fort citadel. The Amanwella has rooms with large glass doors at the front, which give a superb view of the Indian Ocean. This hotel is frequented by those who desire peace and quiet and is easily reached by helicopter from Colombo. In contrast to the modernist design of its sister-property, the Amangalla exudes history from its old Dutch floorboards to its huge arched zaal (hall).
