Scuba Diving
Not just for Dive-hards !
Scuba takes a dive for the better due to coral, fabulous marine life, including whale shark, Barracuda, Tuna plus a multitude of pelagic species around Bentota, Beruwela, Hikkadua, Galle, Weligama, Kirinda, Kalapitya and Uppaveli- the most popular sites. But the ultimate underwater paradise is Pigeon Island off Trincomalle on the East Coast, home to the rare Blue Rock pigeon. The season on this coast is May to September. Sri Lanka’s largest reef is Kalapitya -three nautical miles of Bar Reef & one nautical mile in breadth is on the West. Which ever coast you choose, diving is extraordinary good value and a good place to learn, 6 day PADDI courses, UDI + Advanced open water certificate & night dives. The three-dimensional challenges include wrecks from World War ll, a car Ferry lying 9 kms offshore from Colombo, and a steam-driven oil tanker from 1860 at Hikkadua.
