Kite Surfing In Sri Lanka
High as a kite
The fastest growing sport today is also the most recent extreme sport to take off in Hikkadua, Tangalle, Arugam Bay, and inland at Bolgoda and Kandalama lakes. It has all the thrills of hanging out of a car door racing round a track with your head ten inches from the tarmac but anyone from 7 to 77 who is physically fit can learn. For beginners December to March brings Northeast wind and May to October South Westerlies which bring as much as 35 knots on hot days when the breeze kicks in. You don’t need a raging gale to be flying across the water and skimming through the air.
Plusses are the wind is free and kiting is environmentally friendly. Essential for beginners to have training, trainer kites and helmets.
They don’t call Kite surfing an extreme sport for nothing!
