Why Anilana - Park Street Hotel?

This beautifully restored 250-year-old colonial bungalow was once the abode of Colombo entrepreneur Sheikh Salehbhoy Moosajee and his second wife Begum Zarina, a flamboyant artist, fashion and social icon of the time. It was the third of lifestyle guru Anilana’s impeccably stylish properties to open, and her graceful renovation has carefully retained the elegant colonial ambience of this ancestral home whilst bringing it firmly into the 21st century. Ornate chandeliers, Dutch-period furniture and magnificent antiques provide plenty of interest while as a personal touch, Begum Zarina’s portraits and paintings liberally adorn the crisp white walls.

Located on a quiet leafy side street The Park Street is a solace in a busy city and its high level of personalised service makes it incomparable with the city’s large five star properties. Set within two carefully landscaped acres it comprises two magnificent suites, ten ultra-modern converted warehouse rooms and a beautiful swimming pool at the heart of the inner courtyard. The Dining Room is suitably formal although the tables that spill onto the courtyard under the frangipani trees below are more relaxed and the ideal place for al-fresco lunches or for sipping sophisticated cocktails under the stars to the soft murmur of smooth jazz.

The Park Street is an excellent choice for business travellers since its intimacy makes it a great place to conduct business meetings with important clients while all-over Wi-Fi allows you to work whilst topping up your tan by the pool! Massages are conducted in-room and there is even a gym. For the leisure traveller it is an especially refined choice for its authenticity and for its location close to many of the city’s cultural attractions and shops.
