Why Kahanda Kanda?

Kahanda Kanda vividly translates as Yellow Moon Mountain. Also known as KK, this ethnically stylish private villa is perched on a ridge overlooking Koggala Lake and surrounded by 12 acres of a working pea-green tea estate and verdant jungle. Indulgent, spacious and contemporary, KK is made up of a series of free-standing pavilions that house five beautifully individual air-conditioned suites, open-sided Living and Dining pavilions beside pretty lily strewn ponds and a beautiful moss-green cement infinity swimming pool with cascading water feature at the far end. A striking saffron-yellow wall with framed windows runs 80m through the length of the property and divides the panorama of views between those of Koggala Lake, and those of the tea and jungle.

While each of the five suites are beautifully designed and decorated with thoughtful features such as day beds built into windowsills, pillow-strewn rattan couches, beautiful Asian art work, antiques and private gardens, perhaps the most unique feature are the his and hers bathrooms featuring twin vanities and double showers open to the starry sky. Views are everywhere – of tea, jungle and the distant lake – and can be enjoyed from any number of inspiring, comfortable spots that provide the perfect ambience in which to unwind. The estate provides much of the fresh produce that goes into its fresh fusion cuisine which can be enjoyed poolside or even as a picnic in the beautiful tropical garden.

While Galle and its sights are only 15km away and the nearest beaches a fifteen-minute drive, KK is close enough to all of the area’s major attractions and provides a gorgeously dreamy place to come back to at the end of the day if you even care to venture out of its Zen-like embrace.
