Why The Fort Printers?

Located at the very heart of Galle Fort, the Printers is a beautifully restored boutique hotel with five glamorous suites. Over the last two centuries it has housed Mahinda College and the Bank of Ceylon while most recently it was the home of a traditional printing company whose sparkling press still stands proudly in the hallway of the house. High ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows dominate the property whose clever mix of classic and modern furnishings create a simplistic but spacious feel. Located close to all of Galle’s shops, restaurants and bars, the Printers is ideal as an exclusive private retreat to explore Galle Fort and the surrounding area.

As you enter into the Grand Hallway, you get an idea of the spaciousness of the house. The Drawing Room and Library are huge and have cushioned sofas and seating alcoves placed atop marble tiled floors polished to a high sheen. Books and magazines provide endless reading pleasure. The Dining Room stretches the entire length of the house and features a formal dining table, some beautiful antique cabinets and a relaxed sitting area. A frangipani-shaded inner courtyard furnished with tables and shades is perfect for alfresco dining and, with the sun flooding in, is enhanced by an azure lap pool.

The five suites are sumptuously furnished with vividly coloured silk cushions and curtains that provide a stylish touch. Four are located upstairs off a wooden shuttered gallery that overlooks Pedlar Street while the fifth is privately located by the pool. With such a wealth of history on your doorstep strolls around the fort ramparts are a must; shop, watch cricket and enjoy the crimson rays at sunset remembering that it is only ever a short walk back home.

Our favourite room is the Headmaster’s Suite which overlooks the pool, tiled roofs of fort and the lighthouse.

We recommend a minimum of three nights in Galle to give enough time to explore Galle Fort and any one of the many attractions in the area.

Travel time from the airport is approximately four hours by road or one hour by air.
