Why Pilana?

For families with children, groups of friends and anyone looking for a comfortable place to stay in tranquil rural surroundings, Pilana is ideal. Located about 15 minutes inland from Galle, Pilana is situated opposite an ancient Buddhist temple and is surrounded by lush paddy fields. The villa is old - its statuesque grandeur reflects its past as the walawe of a village elder or someone of similar import - and the present owners have beautifully restored it by retaining many original features such as the intricately carved window and door frames, high ceilings and polished cement floors as well as the beautiful facade, exterior walls and walkways in the garden. Slick bathrooms, bright furnishings and a wonderful swimming pool shaded by frangipani trees firmly bring it into the 21st century.

Pilana houses five homely bedrooms. A high-ceilinged drawing room on the ground floor features mint green walls, cosy cement cushioned sofas and plenty of reading material to make you feel right at home whilst the interior dining room presents a magnificently long antique wooden table that would be ideal for an exquisite party. The villa is filled with unique antiques, interesting artwork, wooden carved masks, fans and beautifully ornate lamps whilst just outside, beyond the shaded verandah lies the inviting emerald-green swimming pool.

Pilana is especially child friendly; A children’s room on the ground floor is filled with all sorts of toys, games and books as well as inflatables for the pool so that they can be kept occupied for hours while the friendly manager Alex and his wife will happily keep the little ones amused if you wish to enjoy a few hours of peace and quiet with a book in the garden. Amble around the village, watch the birds, monkeys and squirrels in the trees or glimpse fireflies dancing in the moonlight as you sip at your G&T by nightfall in your own highly secluded tropical garden.
