Why Lake Lodge?

If what you’re looking for is a comfortable hotel within Sri Lanka’s Cultural Triangle that’s intimate, personal and peaceful then Lake Lodge is an excellent choice. Situated on an elevated ridge near to Dambulla, Lake Lodge not only has a beautifully picturesque location looking east towards the scenic Kandalama Lake and the striking rock fortress of Sigiriya but also delights in sweeping vistas over an endless carpet of green jungle punctuated by jutting rocks, tree-clad ridges, Mihintale’s sacred hills and Dambulla’s famous Golden Buddha. From the comfort of your own private veranda or treetop balcony you can admire the spectacle of birds, monkeys, squirrels and other wildlife as they characterise this panoramic verdant stage that calmly lies before you.

There are only six generous bedrooms at Lake Lodge, each of which captures the tranquillity of the natural wooded surroundings. They share a spacious terrace and indigenous tree-filled garden as well as a sundrenched swimming pool that lies expansively between the entrance lobby and the breezy restaurant where food is served at any time of the day. The design of Lake Lodge is contemporary with plenty of smooth cement used in the build. The interiors are minimal, with all the necessary furnishings there designed to assist you in relaxing and soaking up the restful ambiance and wonderful views.

Although stays in the Cultural Triangle usually mean that whole days are often spent out and about frantically exploring the fascinating historical sites of the region, Lake Lodge is a wonderfully serene place to enjoy for that little bit longer and escape the crowds by combining in equal measure those all-important sightseeing trips with lengthy lounges beside the pool. The food at Lake Lodge is delicious and the staff cherish your comfort and well-being by extending you a welcome that’s as warm and personal as if you were visiting their own home.

The top floor bedrooms – 1, 3 and 5 – are our favourites as they have the best views.

Alcohol is currently not served at Lake Lodge; we recommend you bring your own foreign liquor and wine with you.

Lake Lodge is a stone’s throw from the Kandalama Lake where a range of local activities are offered; hot air ballooning (November to April), boat trips, horse riding and elephant trekking just to name a few. Mountain bicycles are available for guests to use.

The Cultural Triangle’s prominent historical and natural sites – Sigiriya, Dambulla and Polonnaruwa plus Minneriya and Wasgomuwa national parks – are all easily visited on half or full day trips.

Other local attractions include the Popham Arboretum and the Na Forest and rose quartz hills.
