A
relaxing holiday along Sri Lanka's southern coastal
belt, also known as the Serendip Riviera.
We will meet you personally at the airport. A
short one hour sea plane or helicopter ride is
all it takes to reach the southern most tip of
Sri Lanka. There is no denying the area has some
of the most beautiful and secluded bays on the
island and is home to some of the most beautiful
hotels and villas. We would enthusiastically recommend
The Beach House on Senimodera Beach or the Last
House on Mahawella beach.
The palm fringed bay and picturesque coves of
Tangalle are a natural treasure, with a lazy town
littered with gentle reminders of the Dutch days
of the 18th century. East of Tangalle, Rekawa
is well known for its turtles and the Kalametiya
wetlands, ideal for bird watching. Tangalle is
a good base from which to explore Yala National
Park and Uda Walawe National Park.
A two hour trip towards the west along the ‘Riviera’
will take you to Galle, described by many as Sri
Lanka's most romantic city. Galle Fort is a World
Heritage site and is the finest example of a fortified
city built by Europeans in South East Asia. With
its own natural harbor, an international cricket
ground, Galle is mystical microcosm of the essence
of Sri Lanka, its culture, history trades and
people. With many of the finest examples of Dutch
and Portuguese colonial buildings in the Fort
now sensitively restored, the Fort serves as an
extraordinary chronicle of the history of this
strangely timeless place.
In
Galle there are a number of award winning
hotels, some of which are featured on this website.
Our favorites in the fort are
The Dutch House,
The Sun House and The
Fort Printers, as well as the lovely Amangalla.
Your next stop is Bentota beach, recently ranked
3rd best beach in the world. On route from Galle to Bentota, Ambalangoda is the main production
center for demonic wooden masks originally designed
to be worn be performers of Sri Lankan dances.
Bentota’s beach is amongst the finest along
the west coast and certainly one of the most popular
on the island. The Bentota river forms a long
lagoon and used for jet skiing and river safaris.
Cool cocktails, tranquil boat trips and sun soaking.
Our favorite hideaways in Bentota are
Taru Villas, The
River House, Lunuganga
and Sri Villas.
A final stop in Colombo will not disappoint.
A glimpse beneath the chaotic façade of
this metropolis on the banks of the Indian Ocean
will reveal a treasure of delights and surprises
to the inquisitive visitor. We always encourage
our guest to experience Colombo for at least a
day or two. Colombo is not a city where crowds
of tourist are shoved from one monument to the
next. It is not a city of shopping malls or gigantic
plasma screens pumping out advertisements night
and day. It is a city with charming little hideaways
waiting to be discovered. We have carefully handpicked
the best shops and galleries, and the best restaurants.
Sri Lanka In Style offers a personalized shopping
tour of Colombo for those interested.
In Colombo our favorite hotels are Park
Street Hotel and Casa
Colombo, both small luxury hotels each well
located but offering a distinctly different experience.
Park Street Hotel is more classic, Casa
Colombo is decidedly chic.
