The Rice House is perfect for long stays in the south for families or a small group. The homely space offers a comfortable and stylish base from which guests to explore the surrounds of Galle and the coast which is just minutes away by tuk tuk. The house is a relatively new build, but its style has blended in styles of antique as well as modern design; the flooring consists of cool handmade terra cotta tiles and the living room made up with large comfy sofas and beanbags for lounging. It also opens out to two verandahs; one which overlooks the front garden and the other which opens to vast paddy fields, the swimming pool and outdoor dining area which is also furnished with swinging rattan chairs, wooden benches and butterfly chairs; once you sit down you’ll never want to get up!
The living room is a fairly large space, complete with a large screen television and lounge area perfect for adults and kids.
In the garden is where you’ll find the infinity pool alongside the paddy fields with a terrace with sun beds. The lawn is a great space for soccer or cricket.
– Ride inland on mountain bikes to discover a stunning emerald landscape of paddy fields, white-washed Buddhist temples, and rural villages.
– Spend the day on one of the golden beaches along the coast: Unawatuna, Thalpe or Mirissa.
– Go whale and dolphin watching from Mirissa.
– Visit the virgin white tea plantation in Titagalla and learn how tea, cinnamon and rubber is produced.
