Visas to Sri Lanka
ETA is an official authorization for a Short Visit to Sri Lanka and is issued electronically. We have just received the following update from the Sri Lankan Immigration Authorities.
The ETA system will be effective from midnight 31st December, 2011 and all those who obtain VISA thereafter, will be expected to use the ETA system paying the relevant VISA fees. However for those who obtained a Visa Approved Reference number using ETA prior to 31st December 2011, there will be no VISA fee as long as they arrive within the visa validity period which is 90 days. For those who arrive without obtaining a Visa Approved Reference number through ETA after midnight 31st December there will be a facility to obtain ‘on-arrival VISA’ by paying the relevant ‘on arrival VISA fee\’ at the airport itself.
- The cost will be US$20 as a standard for all countries for processing the visa prior to arrival. For South Asian (SAARC) countries the cost will be US$10. For children under the age of 12 there is no charge. Those who arrive at the airport without a prior visa will also be able to obtain a visa at the port of arrival. The cost will be US$25 for all countries and US$15 for South Asian (SAARC) countries.
- The ETA can now be obtained On-Line by logging on to www.eta.gov.lk and following the instructions.
We are advising all the guests arriving on or after the 1st of January 2012 to access the ETA website and obtain the reference number and a printout. We have tested it ourselves and it works. Having a reference number will save you time at the airport. It is expected that there will be longer queues for those without the reference number.
