With a history that dates as far back as 200 BC, Hambantota is still a prominent region in Sri Lanka today, and is home to the first Shangri-La project in the island.There is so much to see and do in Hambantota: from visiting the nearby Bundala National Park and Kalamatiya Bird Sanctuary to seeing the Mahapelessa Hot Springs and Thanamalwila River, travelers have much to look forward to.

  • Leonard Woolf, the author of ‘Village in the Jungle', served as the British colonial administrator at Hambantota between 1908 and 1911.
