A scenic trek through a hidden hamlet

Back Back

An hour’s drive from Kandy, this little village is locked in time in the midst of mountains. The village, interspersed with babbling streams and ringed by towering trees, is a place where the man effortlessly co-exists with the wild. Here, you can witness the charm of local village life that beats to a completely different rhythm. The stillness of the hamlet is pleasantly disturbed by the sound of chirping of birds and rustling of leaves. The villagers live on agriculture and cultivate vegetables, herbs and spices. The path adorned with rustic foliage on either side, leads to dreamy landscapes of golden paddy fields bountiful with crop.  A sojourn in this quaint village in Kandy will definitely give you a breath of fresh air and an opportunity connect with the locals.

Experience Overview

Leave from Kandy in the early morning to kick off your trek and to explore the little hamlet. Once you approach the village, you will be greeted with the sight of lush paddy fields that stretch as long as the eye could see. Trek through the village with your guide and meet friendly locals. Stop at a paddy field and learn about Sri Lanka’s traditional paddy cultivation techniques and the island’s heritage of green farming. Visit thriving home gardens which often have patches of veggies and spices. There are plenty of endemic birds, butterflies and lizards to draw your attention throughout the trek. Enjoy the sight of little streams that babble over mossy rocks with a milky forth and land into a small pool of still water. You can take a refreshing dip in the icy cold water if you dare. Please note that this terrain is very spectacular and provides a variety of distractions that will cater to the dedicated outdoorsman or outdoorswoman, and even those looking for nothing more daring than a leisurely stroll or a refreshing dip in a mountain stream. Therefore, let us know your interests in advance to design the perfect trek for you.

Managing Expectations

It is important to remember that, whilst they are experts in their field, the people who run or host our experiences are not necessarily used to working in the tourism industry and may not offer the level of service you would find at a five-star hotel. For example, instead of a formal lecture, you may get a relaxed conversation where open discussion is encouraged. All of our hosts are, however, extremely engaging, knowledgeable and passionate about educating visitors about their chosen subject and we have worked with them to ensure that they deliver worthwhile, fulfilling experiences. We welcome feedback, so please let us know what you thought and if you think any improvements could be made to the experiences we offer.
