Built over 170 years ago, Bethany 101 is a newly-restored classic manor house built in a Moorish architectural style that offers guests elegant accommodation and a taste of British colonial history. It is a beautiful property in which to relax, with large verandas dotted with ‘easy chairs’ and a lush garden complete with a swimming pool, and the ocean is just across the road. It’s situated 80 miles north of Colombo in the quiet north-western agricultural town of Puttalam, which is home to one of the island’s largest lagoons and is famous for its salt and coconut production, as well as being a great base for visiting Kalpitiya or Wilpattu National Park.

Bethany 101 has held a reputation for serving incomparable cuisine to its guests ever since it opened. The kitchen team perfectly captures the fusion cuisine found in Puttlam, which has Indian, Malay and European influences, and all of the produce is fresh and sourced locally. There is an extensive menu on offer here, ranging from age-old Sri Lankan favorites to a selection of dishes from around the world. The seafood is particularly recommended, brought in daily from Puttlam Lagoon.
