Ambassador’s House was home to the representative of Pakistan, Iraq and Bangladesh until it was recently taken over and restored by its present owners. Designer Charles Hulse, long-time resident of Galle Fort, made extensive but thoughtful renovations to the old archways which has allowed light and air to flood in – the old property it is now a spacious five-bedroom villa which comfortably sleeps ten guests. The house is set back off the road, with a columned entrance leading into the sitting room which has deep and comfortable sofas. There are four rooms with double beds and one twin room, all with ensuite bathrooms, with two of the rooms on the ground floor overlooking the pool. The master suite and twin room are on the upper floor.
Bedrooms are beautiful and sophisticated, designed in a traditional style with four-poster beds but complete with all modern facilities including A/C, ceiling fans and hot water. As a bonus, the master suite has a bathtub. Three of the rooms are on the ground floor, whilst the master suite and twin room are on the second floor.
Things to do ?
The in-house cook can make a range of Western and local meals, based on your personal preferences, and will be delighted to suggest menus for you. You can also accompany them to the local markets. Fresh produce such as seafood and tropical fruits are abundant in this part of the island and are brought in daily. There is also a small selection of wine and international spirits.
