Kandy House

Kandy

The grand ancestral home of one of Kandy’s most influential aristocratic families, the Kandy House sits on 6 acres in a quiet village area close to Kandy.

Originally built in 1805, the Kandy House was restored in a style that combines classical Kandyan period architecture with Dutch colonial furnishings and a soft, colorful and elegant finish. Large shady verandas, double-hammocks and tropical lawns encourage one to find a comfortable and quiet corner to relax or read. The ambalama overlooking the paddy fields is perfect for private dining, spa treatments and even yoga sessions.

The Kandy House has 9 luxurious bedrooms categorized into Deluxe and Ultra Rooms, each individually designed and named after butterflies found in Sri Lanka.

Borderlands

Kithulgala

Borderlands is a rustic campsite set on the edge of the Kelani River in Kitulgala, comprised of open-sided wooden huts which allow guests to lose themselves in nature. A stay at Borderlands will inevitably include high-energy river-based activities like white-water rafting, canyoning, abseiling and kayaking, all with high safety standards, led by well-trained guides. For those looking to stay dry, there is birdwatching and plenty of hikes in the surrounding jungle, although these are still likely to end with a river bath (if you so wish!). This is a great place for those who want to step out of their comfort zone and try out new adventures.

Borderlands offers accommodation in comfortable tents, cabins and chalets. The Long House, overlooking the river, is an amazingly chilled-out space with hammocks and bean bags where guests can relax with a chilled beer after a day of adventure. It also doubles up as a dining area where you can happily gobble down the delicious meals served up by the kitchen.

All rooms have mosquito nets to keep away the bugs. The chalets have attached bathrooms whilst the tents and cabins have shared bathrooms which are a short walk away from the rooms. Wi-Fi is available in The Long House.

Galle

Kahanda Kanda vividly translates as Yellow Moon Mountain. Also known as KK, this ethnically stylish private villa is perched on a ridge overlooking Koggala Lake surrounded by 12 acres of a working pea-green tea estate and verdant jungle. It also has a beautiful moss-green cement infinity swimming pool with cascading water feature at the far end. A striking saffron-yellow wall with framed windows runs 80m through the length of the property and divides the panorama of views between those of Koggala Lake, and those of the tea and jungle.

While Galle and its sights are only 15km away and the nearest beaches a fifteen-minute drive, KK is close enough to all of the area’s major attractions and provides a gorgeously dreamy place to come back to at the end of the day if you even care to venture out of its Zen-like embrace.

Activities during your stay

  • Try out water-sports and whale watching
  • Trek through a secluded rainforest
  • Enjoy some downtime on the beach
