A typical day with Leopard Trails begins in the afternoon with a fantastic lunch spread of Sri Lankan rice and curry, followed by a short introduction to the camp. Guests can choose to cool off in a hammock or laze in the main lounge with a number of books from the Leopard Trails wildlife library until the evening game starts at 3pm.

Designed especially for photographers and comfort, in either a Toyota Land Cruiser or Toyota Hilux, the evening game drive is led by either Aaron Sivarajah, Indika Nettigama or Avijja Fonseka. Passionate about wildlife and game drives, they each lead memorable game drives and walks and have years of experience tracking down the elusive leopard in Sri Lanka.

Back at the camp, guests can enjoy private bucket showers, followed by drinks and appetizers around the camp fire before dinner. Dining under the stars makes for an unforgettable experience in the jungle. The next day, rise at dawn to freshly brewed Ceylon tea of coffee and depart on morning game drive or walk at 6am which is an amazing time to get up close to peacocks and wild buffalos. On return to the camp, freshly squeezed juices from seasonal fruits await you before a breakfast fit for kings.

The Leopard Trails operates on an all-inclusive basis offering tented accommodation, two game drives per day in a customized vehicle accompanied by an experienced guide, snacks and drinks on game drives, all meals at camp, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and all park entry fees. Welcome to Ceylon Tea Trails, a range of luxurious planters’ bungalows in Dickoya, found approximately 4,000 feet above sea level in the southern highlands of Sri Lanka’s tea country. Tea Trails comprises five classic colonial bungalows, all of which are Relais & Châteaux bungalowsbuilt for British tea estate managers in the days of the Raj Each bungalow is different, combining both classical and contemporary styles: the effect is quintessentially luxurious and colonial, a stroll back in time but entirely resplendent in modern amenities. Within the confines of each bungalow guests will find over-sized rooms with four-poster beds, lavish bathrooms and a blazing log fire in the dining and drawing rooms. The meticulously maintained gardens also feature sun-decks and summer houses where traditional English Cream Teas are served by the bungalow’s resident butler. Enjoy reading by the pool, having high tea in the summerhouse or a gin and tonic on the terrace.

Summerville, built in 1923 and standing at an altitude of 4000ft, is the most intimate of the Tea Trails bungalows with only four rooms, making it ideal for a family or a small group of friends. It is set right on the edge of Castlereagh Lake with stunning views over the water and the tea plantations on the opposite hill. The living room is very cosy with glass doors, a well-stocked drinks cabinet and a log fire. The suites, some of which open to private gardens, are beautifully decorated. The latest addition to the grounds is a serene infinity edge pool, perfect for a refreshing dip after a day walking in the hills.

For those looking to stay dry, there is birdwatching and plenty of hikes in the surrounding jungle, although these are still likely to end with a river bath (if you so wish!). This is a great place for those who want to step out of their comfort zone and try out new adventures.

Borderlands offers accommodation in comfortable tents, cabins and chalets. The Long House, overlooking the river, is an amazingly chilled-out space with hammocks and bean bags where guests can relax with a chilled beer after a day of adventure.
